Buy checks – combine them – and wear them with intention.

Not every pattern suits you — or every occasion.
Not every pattern suits you — or every occasion.

What suits whom and when? Style is so much more than fashion.

Style is knowing yourself and understanding what suits you — and when you want to create a certain effect.

Think of bold plaid patterns and you’ll likely picture the American cowboy riding across the wide prairie. That’s exactly where it fits — but not at an elegant, formal event.

How do you handle the topic of patterns? Do you know which ones suit you?Only those who know the rules can break them with skill. Pablo Picasso once said:

"Learn the rules like a pro so you can break them like an artist."

That’s exactly what personal style is about. Only when you understand why certain colors, patterns, and style principles work for you — or don’t — can you break them deliberately to create a desired effect. Without that knowledge, it’s simply chance — and chance rarely has style.

♦ Plan your appearance!

Highlight your message through your style choices. Every day, we decide how to present ourselves to the world. Even if we don’t make a conscious choice, we’re still making one — by leaving it to chance.

Imagine this: wherever you go, you’re standing on your own stage. You are seen, you are noticed. Your outfit is part of your message.

The Law of Good Taste

Dressing appropriately, attractively, and comfortably is an art. It starts with a clear goal: well-being.

Clothing should feel like a second skin. It should:• Be flattering in cut, material, and pattern• Highlight your individual strengths• Avoid drawing attention to areas you’d rather downplay

When you feel comfortable, you radiate confidence — and as designer Bill Blass put it:

"Confidence is the best style a woman can have."

Or as Coco Chanel said:

"True elegance is when the inside is as beautiful as the outside."

Patterns: Friend or Foe?

Not every pattern suits you — or every occasion. Patterns influence how your style is perceived.

Basic guidelines:

• The smaller the person → the smaller the patterns

• The straighter the body shape → the more geometric the patterns (checks, stripes, polka dots)

• The softer or more romantic the body shape → the rounder, more playful, or floral the patterns

Consider the occasion:

For formal events (e.g., presentations), neutral, solid, or subtle patterns are often best so they don’t distract from your message. Large patterns can be perceived as distracting.

♦ How to find your perfect pattern

Two key factors:

  1. Pattern Shape

    • Straight/angular lines in face/body → straight patterns

    • Round/soft lines → round patterns

  2. Size & Definition

    • Tall body → larger patterns

    • Petite body → smaller patterns

    • Few sharp lines → less defined patterns that blend with the background

    • Angular/bony → clearly defined patterns that stand out from the background

Clothing is more than Fabric — it’s Communication.

Truly well-dressed people know themselves and the rules! That way, you can decide:• What message you want to send• Whether to follow or intentionally break the rules• How to use patterns to support you — not distract from what matters most

Don’t leave it to chance!
