#How to add more face to your face!
♥Can you read? Do you remember how fascinating it was learning to read. Suddenly we were able to interpret the signs on the street and a whole world of discovery has been opened ever since. I loved to read. I grew up in a small village and through my books I traveled the world became my village.
The same applies to anything in life. If you don´t know the multiplication table by heart, Math will always be difficult for you.
This principle applies to your personal Style as well. We are simply blind to our potential. And the worst thing about it, we don´t even realize our blindness.
But there are people, that have learned to “read the rules of Style” and they see, that you can´t see. Wouldn´t you accept any help in order to see?
There is this quote by Helen Rubinstein, which I really like, “there are no ugly women, only lazy ones!” So true.
In 2009 I took this big decision: I want to see! I want to understand the rules of Style. And I want to teach other how to see. And it is the most heartwarming and gratifying experience being part of this process. Many women look like wilted flowers. Once they go through this process, there journey of blooming and thriving starts.
As you can see in my own process of Make-Over. I was blind to my potential. I want to see and read so hard, but I couldn´t. I tried, but I didn´t know HOW to highlight my beauty potential. Once I started to understand the rules, the multiplication table of STYLE, a world of beauty and potential has opened for me.
One of the most eye-opening moments was, when my trainer and coach said to me in a very kind but direct way: “Mrs. Funk, you have to add FACE to your Face. Stop hiding!” Well, I was hiding. I didn’t like my wrinkles on my forehead. So I decided to have my bangs combed into my forehead to hide them. I didn´t like that my face seemed so short and so round, but had no idea on how to change that. I didn´t like my nose, so long and pointed. What I didn´t see, that all of these aspects are part of my unique beauty and style. I had really no idea how to highlight the assets of my face, because I only focused on the aspects I didn´t like.
Now, after almost 15 years in this process I am still working on my personal and improving unique “STYLE Signature”. So, it´s a journey, a process, that takes time.
♥Let me share a few insights with you today on HOW to “add more face to your face”.
1. Everything starts with color.
Once you know your seasonal colors, you glow. Your skin looks radiant, cleaner, healthier, younger. If the color doesn´t work for you it makes you look pale, sickly, like you didn´t sleep well, and older.
a. If you don´t know your seasonal colors, start with highlighting the colors of your eyes. In my case it´s a mix of blue-green and so if I wear a combination of those colors, it makes my eyes look brighter and I get compliments for my beautiful eyes. Someone even told me: “If I could I would like to eat your eyes”. Coming from an indigenous belief, if you eat the part of an animal you would like to have, you´ll get it.
b. Light, bright and warmer colors attract the eye. So a recommendation, to attract the attention to your face is to wear something lighter and brighter close to your face. It could be a scarf, a necklace, a collar
2. The next very important aspect are the RULES OF THE LINES.
We could compare it to the table of multiplication. Once you know these rules, you can apply them to anything and everything, depending on what you want to highlight or diminish.
The viewer´s eye follow the lines. Wherever they are.
a. Vertical lines draw the eye up and down, adding height and diminishing width.
b. Horizontal lines do the opposite. All horizontal lines shorten and widen.
c. Curved lines add more roundness.
d. Diagonals camouflage by moving the eye indirectly.
Near-Diagonals, which I call a V line, lengthen.
Near-Horizontal lines, on the opposite, widen.
